Talisay cops get balance of meal stipend

ALL the more than 60 Talisay City policemen finally got yesterday the balance of their meal allowance for last week’s polls.

Each of them got P183, on top of the P150 they earlier received on the morning of May 14, for a total of P333 each.

The Talisay City policemen were supposed to receive P360 each or P120 daily as their meal allowance for three days.

Although they never got their meal stipend in full, still they were glad that at least they obtained most of what was due them.

The meal incentives, which were provided by the PNP hierarchy, became controversial after some of the policemen complained they only received P150 from Talisay City Police Station Chief Romeo Perigo.

Food purchase

A source told Sun.Star Cebu that they learned of their total P360 meal allowance when Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) Carmelo Valmoria announced it during his Talisay visit last May 16.

But Perigo explained that the meal allowance was not given in full because a portion of it was used to buy food for policemen assigned at the City Hall canvassing area.

He said the money was also used to purchase food for a police team that escorted the election personnel to the Cebu Provincial Capitol in Cebu City.

Perigo added that he received the fund for the meal allowance at dawn on May 14, adding that his men were deployed early on that day.

The police official then ordered for a full accounting of the fund and told Sun.Star that more than P10,000 was left, which was equally distributed to all policemen at P183 each. (GC)
