Tomas works from his hospital bed

CEBU City Mayor Tomas Osmeña will be back at work by Wednesday, after his team of doctors gave him clearance to leave the hospital in three to four days.

Osmeña is recovering from a minor surgery and has already been transferred to a regular room from his coronary care unit room at the Chong Hua Hospital yesterday.

Dr. Pek Eng Lim, one of the mayor’s doctors, said his patient will be ready to leave the hospital by either Monday or Tuesday.

The mayor had a minor surgery to repair a vein that was punctured during his angiogram procedure in Manila last Monday, the doctor said.

Osmeña was rushed to the hospital around 2:30 a.m. last Thursday after complaining of extreme pain in his upper right thigh.

His wife Margot said the mayor’s thigh was bruised as a result of the punctures during the angiogram, that is why the doctors decided to conduct a minor surgery to repair the vein.

“What happened is normal. It happens to one percent of those who have the angiogram procedure so it’s nothing unusual,” Lim said.

From his hospital bed, Osmeña discussed with City Administrator Francisco Fernandez updates on the South Road Properties and other City Hall matters.

Osmeña also asked to have documents that need his signature delivered to his hospital room today.

“In five days’ time he will be back at City Hall and while he can’t go back yet, he wants to sign documents at the hospital. He will be transferred to a regular room today and we were just talking to his doctors and they gave him clearance to leave the hospital by next week,” said Fernandez.

Osmeña has been having routine checkups in Cebu and Manila after he suffered a hypertensive attack in March 2002.

His brother Sen. Sergio “Serge” Osmeña has also just recovered from an angioplasty after he suffered a minor heart attack several weeks ago. (LCR)
