Monday, May 28, 2007 Landco’s Alby By Jenara Regis Newman
HIS full name is Alfred S. Xeres-Burgos III, but he prefers to be called Alby. He is senior vice-president (SVP) for sales and marketing of Landco Pacific Corporation, the newest player in Cebu’s real estate scene, set to develop the 200-hectare Villalon estate.
Alby has had more than a decade of experience in realty development, starting as project assistant for Landco’s business planning group for which he developed an operating manual for Landco shopping centers (Pacific Malls in Lucena, Legaspi and Cabanatuan). Then he was involved in various capacities for Canyon Woods Residential Resort and Canyon Woods Resort Club projects. In 1999, he was deputy director for corporate development and was project head of Costa del Madera and Batulao Woodlands.
For the wholly Landco-owned Leisure farms, he started as general manager and project director and, from 2002 to 2006, was senior vice president and group head of leisure farms, heading both Leisure Farms and Leisure Farms Agri-tainment Project as well as heading Ponderosa Leisure Farms and acting as director for corporate communications.
Alby’s rise in the corporate ladder did not come on a silver platter. He studied diligently and involved himself in co-curricular activities. He got his high school diploma from De La Salle-Zobel, Alabang where he was batch representative for fund-raising projects and a member of the badminton team.
In college, he took up industrial engineering with minor in chemical engineering at De La Salle University. Here he was active with the Industrial Engineering Society and was Rowing Team and member of the ROTC Model Platoon (Marines). To round up his education, he got a master’s degree in management from the Asian Institute of Management. His studies have not stopped there. He also attends seminars relevant to his work.
Alby may seem to be all work, a worthy son of Alfred Xeres-Burgos Jr., Landco president and CEO, but he does take time to play golf and badminton. For a more sedate preoccupation, he has his wine and movie collection. His other interests are travel, architecture and interior design, which enhance his creativity in realty development.
For Cebu, Alby envisions Landco’s project, Monterrazas de Cebu, to be the premier residential community of the city. The development, like other Landco projects, will be “themed”, and for this city, because of its Spanish heritage, it will be Spanish influenced “with a Cebuano flavor.” As SVP for marketing and sales, Alby will oversee the promotion of this, as well as other Landco project brands. Which means that though there will be Landco people on the project site, Alby will be here on periodic visits, a worthy addition to the movers and shakers of this queen city of the south.
