19 HS students get scholarships

SOME 19 high school graduates living in Lapu-Lapu City will benefit in the revival of Plantation Bay Resort and Spa’s scholarship grant.

Together with the resort’s general manager Efren Belarmino, board of directors Art Palou and Nanette de Leon, the scholars, along with their parents, gathered at the resort recently to formally accept their scholarship grants.

Of the 37 aspirants, the 19 new scholars were able to pass the qualifying examination and interview and will enjoy a one-year technical scholarship at the Don Bosco Training Center in Barangay Pasil, Cebu City.

They will receive a monthly allowance of P3,000.

Of the 19 scholars, 13 will take up dressmaking, three on auto mechanic, two for machine shop and one for woodworking.

Gerry Rodriguez, the resort’s human resource manger, said that the scholarship program does not include a contract obliging the scholars to serve the company after graduation.

Work

However, Belarmino said they will have a chance to work in the resort if they apply and qualify.

“Financially challenged but deserving…they are the people that we want to reach out” Rodriguez said.

For scholar Marilyn Racoma, 16, the scholarship had been a big help for her. “It really helped those who cannot take up a degree in college due to financial difficulties” she said.

The scholars will start their course in the 2nd week of June. (Roxygane Quezada Coca, UP Mass Comm intern)
