Burglar kills man, runs away with P60T

A MASKED man barged into a house of a couple in a hilly village in Talisay City, killed the husband, and ran off with P60,000 cash last Monday afternoon.

The unidentified robber also shot the fleeing wife but missed.

Spouses Bernardo and Merlina Quiokelis of Barangay Camp 6 were taking their afternoon siesta past 3 p.m. when the unidentified robber suddenly broke into their house and held them up at gunpoint.

The gunman then aimed his handgun of unknown caliber at Merlina, forcing her to hand over their P60,000 cash.

Investigators learned that the stolen money was the proceeds of their sale of domesticated hogs.

Shot in head

When Bernardo resisted the robber’s demand and ordered his wife not to hand over the money, he was shot in the head, said PO1 Gelmir Noval of the Talisay City PNP theft and robbery section.

The gunman also reportedly got mad at Bernardo because he told his wife to run away.

Not content, the robber stabbed the wounded husband in the body using a knife, said Noval.

The robber turned his ire at Merlina, who was fleeing away from the scene, and shot her but missed.

The thief then casually walked away from the couple’s house, Noval said.

Bernardo was declared dead at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.

Investigation

He succumbed to gunshot and knife wounds in the head and body.

A composite police team is now conducting an investigation.

They will look into how the gunman learned about the couple’s P60,0000 earnings from selling hogs. (GC)
