Wednesday, May 30, 2007 Capitol invites bidders for school materials
WITH her fresh mandate, Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia is ready to keep one of her promises, to continue giving out free school supplies to public school students.
Capitol is now inviting bidders for the supply of school bags and various school materials.
It has set aside more than P15 million for the project.
Starting tomorrow until June 18, Capitol will issue bid documents to interested parties.
The pre-bidding conference will be on June 7 and opening of bids will be on June 19.
The notice of award for the winning bidder will be given on June 22.
Garcia began distributing school supplies like notebooks, pencils and bags to public school pupils last year.
Initially, the project covered grade 1 to grade 3 pupils only.
But she decided to include the other grades after she heard complaints from students from higher grades why they are not included.
During her campaign sorties, Garcia announced that this year, she will include the high school students in her project.
Computers
Also, the Province of Cebu is inviting bidders for the supply of 1,125 units of refurbished computers to be distributed to the different provincial schools of Cebu.
Capitol has set aside P6.525 million for the project.
Issuance of bid documents will be on May 22 to June 12.
The pre-bid conference is set on May 29 and opening of bids is on June 13.
Notice of award to winning bidders will be given on June 20.
Education has always been Garcia’s priority being part of her 12-point agenda.
Capitol had already distributed computers to high schools in Pilar, San Francisco, Poro and Tudela, all in the Camotes group of islands as well as to high schools in the towns of Medellin, Balamban and Asturias.
The Department of Education will pay for the monthly Internet connection of the computers, which is provided by Ayala Corp. through its Gilas (Gearing up Internet Literacy Access for Students) project.
Garcia had said the project is in line with the Capitol’s move to bring Internet literacy to students in the municipalities.
Garcia has also created the Provincial Information and Communications Technology Council through an executive order. (MBG)
