Comelec to give election workers awards

AFTER all the late nights and hard work, those who served during the local and national elections last May 14 will have something to look forward to.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will be giving merit awards to deserving members of the Board of Election Inspectors, Boards of Canvassers and deputized agency personnel.

The granting of these awards and incentives is based on Comelec Resolution 7841, promulgated last March 27.

Provincial Election Supervisor Lionel Marco Castillano said this is the first time the commission will give recognition through merit awards to those “who demonstrated exemplary service and performance” in the elections.

Some are exempted: police officers with the rank of deputy regional directors and above; officers of the Armed Forces with the rank of regional commanders or their equivalents and above; and Comelec officials with the rank of director 3 and above, unless designated as chairman or a member of a canvassers’ board.

The commission will choose the three best Boards of Election Inspectors (BEIs) for the “Parangal sa Tinig ng Bayan” awards. Apart from a plaque, the first placer will get P45,000; second place, P30,000; and third place, P15,000.

The three best Boards of Canvassers will also be chosen for the “Parangal sa Malayang Halalan” award. They will also get a plaque and cash: first place, P60,000; second, P45,000; and third, P30,000.

There will also be individual awardees who will get P25,000 each.

Aside from the awards, the commission may also grant incentives and other benefits such as a bonus, hazard pay and promotion for other commission personnel.

Any person or organization who knows of any extraordinary act or exemplary service of a BEI, BOC or commission officials, employees and deputies in connection with the elections may submit nominations. (MBG)
