TWO Cebuanos have made significant achievements in their respective fields of endeavor in the United States.
Mark L. Martinez of Talisay City was conferred a Shock Trauma Hero Award by the State of Maryland, while lawyer Arnolfo Quindala of Taloot, Argao passed the New York State Bar Exam recently.
The award that Martinez received in Baltimore City is given to those who have given an outstanding service in the field of nursing.
The award was handed to him by Marland Gov. Martin O’Malley.
Martinez finished a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Cebu City Medical Center College of Nursing and Master of Arts in Nursing from the Cebu Normal University.
The Shock Trauma Hero Award is given annually to medical professionals, including the 911 rescuers, who have made extraordinary services in saving human lives.
Quindala, on the other hand, obtained his Bachelor of Laws at the University of San Carlos in Cebu City.
Experience
He worked as probation officer and, later, became a legal officer of the Parole and Probation Administration 7. In January 1999, he transferred to the Public Attorney’s Office, which is also under the Department of Justice, and worked as public attorney II.
He also obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy while being a CICM Seminarian at the University of Saint La Salle, Bacolod City and was also on the dean’s list. He was also a Handumanan Foundation Scholar.
In the US, he took up at the City University of New York-LaGuardia Community College in Long Island City, New York 60 credits for an Associate in Applied Science Degree major in Paralegal Studies and was on the dean’s honor’s list.
Quindala is married to Easter Medallo, a registered nurse at Mount Sinai Hospital Center, Manhattan, New York. They have two daughters, Jasmine Marianne, 10, and Janelle Marianne, 2.
