Oppus said he will talk with police personnel and make a reassessment.
Acting Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Norma Patalinjug sought Oppus’ relief immediately after she replaced Mayor Arturo Radaza last April, when the latter was preventively suspended.
Acting CPPO Director Carmelo Valmoria, however, earlier said that even before the suspension order of Radaza was served, Oppus already requested for a transfer of assignment.
Oppus was assigned at the CPPO headquarters after he was replaced as chief of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Station.
Supt. Noel Gillamac took over his post when Oppus was transferred. Oppus was designated as the subtask group commander of Cebu’s first district for the duration of the elections.
But two weeks after approving his transfer, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) ordered Oppus’ return to Lapu-Lapu City.
Comelec issued the order based on “various requests” and the recommendation of Lapu-Lapu City Election Officer Ann Janette Chua Hu-Lamban.
Comelec Commissioner Resureccion Borra issued the order granting “various requests” to return Oppus to the Lapu-Lapu City Police Station.
Radaza’s political opponents said in an earlier interview that the mayor might be behind Oppus’ return.
Radaza, who is serving a preventive suspension over the purchase of allegedly overpriced street lights for the Asean Summit last January, was reelected as mayor of Lapu-Lapu City last May 14. (AAG)
