Friday, June 08, 2007 Manila top chef at Marco Polo Plaza
ONE of Manila’s top celebrated chefs, Gene Gonzalez, is coming to Cebu to share his famous brand of Filipino cuisine in “Pinoy Pinoy!,” the Marco Polo Plaza’s Filipino food festival from June 9 - 17.
Chef Gene and his culinary team will be the guest chefs who will prepare classic Pampanga specialties at the daily buffet lunch and dinner at Cafe Marco. This is the hotel’s way of celebrating the Philippines’ 109th Inde-pendence Day on June 12th.
Chef Gene is the chef/owner of Café Ysabel and Gino’s Fine Cuisine, and is the president of the Center for Culinary Studies, as well as the head of the Manila chapter of L’Ordre Mondial. He also hosts his own show, “Gene’s Cuisine,” on the Lifestyle Channel. He has authored several popular books on classic Filipino Cuisine, most notably “Cocina Sulipena,” heralding the culinary gems from his family’s hometown of Pampanga.
Chef Gene’s passion for Cocina Sulipena will be on display everyday from June 9 to June 17. Aside from Pampanga’s famous sisig, diners at Café Marco will be able to savor galantina, menudo, kaldereta, lengua, paella sulipena, kare-kareng apalit, and bringhe among other old-fashioned Pampanga classics.
Those who have any of Chef Gene’s books may bring them for signing by the author from June 9 to 13. Some books will also be available at the hotel’s lobby shop.
