Cebu Dragons face int’l team

THE Cebu Dragons Rugby team will be pitting skills with a traveling international team of expats in a friendly match today at the Cebu International School fields in Barangay Pit-os.

The Dragons will be going up against Hong Kong-Singapore Rhinos at 2:30 p.m.

The Rhinos are made up of expatriates from all over the country, who travel to different cities annually to play against local teams.

The Rhinos is a gathering of rugby players from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Europe and Asia. Last year, the team, led by its captain Les Bird, traveled to Cuba where they played against local players.

Today’s match will be a full contact, 15 aside rugby battle, divided into quarters of 20 minutes each.

The Cebu team, which recently competed in the Manila 10s tournament where they ended up semifinalists, is composed of seven members of the RP Rugby team.

The Dragons’ bid will lie on the shoulders of Pauleen Padayhag, Gerry Banzuela, Noel Flowers, Richard Monte, Jason Foster, Ronald Bartolata and Nico Corpuz.

At halftime, the girls will take their turn with the Dragon Girls taking on Dragon Youth in a touch rugby match. (MCB)
