Monday, June 11, 2007 Costanilla: Instant text reaction By Sam Costanilla spotlight
ONE of our avid readers e-mailed her short reaction to our article here last Monday. The topic was about the creation of the Cebu United Radio and Television Artists Corp. (Curta Corp) wherein we stressed our plan to set up an artists’ training center whose mission is to teach or guide young dramatists to produce quality soap operas. Jinnylou Toledo (cutelady@mozcom.com) stated it is about time that the kind of radio and television dramas we are hearing and watching be improved. “Most of these local productions are mediocre and corny - maybe it’s because new artists don’t undergo serious training on voice acting,” she added.
ANOTHER reader texted his view on the same matter. Rami Tabada wrote that a talent training center is really necessary so that even the veteran drama writers and directors could be given some sort of a refresher course on how to improve their skills. He even suggested that Curta Corp invite Manila writers and directors to come here and share their knowhow but I disagreed with him. I texted back that Cebu alone has a surplus of more established writers and directors who can train their colleagues and counterparts, including those considered veterans.

THIS Saturday, June 16, is the staging of the second Kinsan Festival in Aloguinsan, southwest Cebu. Kinsan is the name of a fish that abounds in the town’s coastal area every June. Mayor Cynthia Moreno has commissioned the incomparable Junjet Primor to conceptualize and direct the event which will be graced by Gov. Gwen Garcia and Vice Gov. Greg Sanchez, Jr. as guests of honor. This writer will, as usual, emcee the day-long festival just like last year.

ON a personal note, let me acknowledge receipt of some e-mails from one of Cebu’s veteran broadcasters who is now based in Edmonton, Canada. Helenito Denuro who used to work as field reporter of ABS-CBN 3 is now living comfortably with his family in Edmonton but he always keeps himself posted on happenings here by reading Sun*Star Cebu online. Godspeed, sir Hel.

THIS local radio station manager is being tagged Mr. Arrogant even by his own subordinates. His arrogance becomes more glaring when probable clients ask him for some discount regarding airtime rates.
