Speak out: Demolitions
By Marjorie S. Ceniza
Cebu City

I ALWAYS get upset when I hear of families losing their homes.

While a home is more about the atmosphere created by a family living together, a home is hardly one without a house.

Pinoy Votes: Sun.Star Election 2007 Coverage

Shelter, which is among people’s basic needs, is essential in building a family, which also happens to be the basic unit of our society.

The home serves as a private sanctuary where values are personalized and where proper conduct is ascertained.

It is therefore reasonable to say that a family cannot effectively and efficiently carry out its supposed functions without a good dwelling.

Reports say 2,256 structures are to be demolished in 16 affected barangays this rainy season for the “common good of the public.”

For every demolition, we not only demolish houses but also homes.

Indeed, we cannot sacrifice the welfare of the majority.

But I hope that we can find a relocation site for the affected families.
