To jumpstart their intention of becoming the next tycoon in the boxing industry, the group is staging a July 7 card at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel Grand Ballroom, which will be beamed live to Korea by KBS.
“We want to regain the glory of Korean boxing. In the past, we have many world champions but now there’s only one. We have been preparing for this a year ago,” added Lee.
Partnership
Their partnership with Cebu’s SGG Sports Promotions and ALA Gym could serve as its strong foundation that will lead them to success. SGG has already tied up with Golden Boy Promotions.
“Our first step to make it big in international boxing is the Philippines because the boxing fever is at its best in Asia and because we also have a good relationship with ALA Gym. We will do many things with ALA in the future,” Lee stressed.
In choosing China, Lee admitted the country is the biggest market for the companies which sponsor their undertakings.
Big market
“China gives us a lot of opportunities. It can deliver for our sponsors. There are a lot of global companies in China. We have not decided yet as to who will headline the card in China but we want to have the popular boxer in the world,” he said.
BP’s involvement in boxing has already benefited a lot of boxers and Cebuano boxing trainers are now currently working in South Korea to train young Korean talents.
On July 7, BP Entertainment together with SGG Sports Promotions and ALA Gym will present a card headed by Robert Allanic against a still to be determined foe.
The card was supposed to feature Czar Amonsot’s defense of his WBO Asia Pacific lightweight title against Hero Katili of Indonesia but the bout was scrapped after Amonsot got a world title crack.
“We hope that the July 7 card can be exciting and dynamic. Whoever wins doesn’t matter because the most important thing is the excitement and fun of the game. And I want to say thank you to SGG and ALA Gym for all their support. I want to build a new future in the boxing industries in Korea and the Philippines,” Lee said.
