TWO teams from the Philippine Basketball League (PBL) and four squads from the Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA) are set to test each other when the 2007 Talk ’N Text MVBA invitational tournament unfolds on June 24-28 at the Cebu Coliseum.
Existing MVBA squads, led by multi-titled M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala, Arthro Kontra Arthritis, Holcim Pryce Pharma and Iligan Archangels, will test their skills against Burger Kings, Dazz Detergent of the PBL.
And with his lack in ceiling and a legitimate center, Jewelers coach Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba is inviting 6-foot-11 Fil-Am sensation Greg Slaughter to join his team.
Answer
But University of the Visayas Green Lancer coach Elmer “Boy” Cabahug had a different opinion.
According to Cabahug, Slaughter is not yet ready for a commercial tournament, since he is still 19 years old and needs to polish his skills a bit for the tough game in the commercial level.
“Games in the commercial tournaments are different from the collegiate ball game. Yes, we know that he has a huge potential, but he is not yet ready with the physical games in the commercial,” explained Cabahug.
New name
Slaughter, who made headlines recently, has not only caught the attention of the Cebu basketball leagues but in the nation’s capital as well.
“Maybe he doesn’t know this but he’s already a big name in Manila,” said BAP-SBP executive director Patrick Gregorio during the press conference.
After losing to Arthro during the MVBA Visayas Division championship, Alcoseba is now retooling his lineup and will possibly hire good and legitimate centers. (RCM)
