Speak out: Congressman-elect Pablo Garcia
By Teodosio P. Creus

WHEN he was Cebu governor, Pablo Garcia did much to uplift the status of the province.

If given a mandate to be the next House of Representatives Speaker, he can do a lot in uplifting the status of our country.

Pinoy Votes: Sun.Star Election 2007 Coverage

The first time I heard about Pabling was from my father.

Pabling, a native of Dumanjug, would drop by our ancestral house in Malabuyoc during his early political campaign sorties.

My father later learned from our relatives in Tangil, Dumanjug that Pabling and his brothers and sisters were born from poor parents.

They went to school barefooted and finished their elementary grades with honors.

They had to earn a living to go to college and the ending was great.

Pabling was a scholar in college and a bar topnotcher.

He imposed the same discipline he got from his parents in bringing up his children.

This accounts for the success in the academe and later in the careers of his sons and daughters.

My father was only a tailor and a small town politician.

But he was impressed by Pabling’s background.

My father did not have any college degree.

But he imposed strict discipline in bringing us up, his children, a legacy he learned from Pabling.

The first time I met him was during my term as chief engineer in the installation and initial operation of Universal Cement Co. in Danao, Cebu.

Pabling was consultant/adviser of Ramon “Mano Amon” Durano Sr., the owner of the cement company.

Mano Amon, even if he was a lawyer, never made final decisions on corporate and legal matters without getting Pabling’s opinion.

Lately, I read in the newspapers and heard over the radio the ugly tirades against Pabling, Gwen, and Pablo John, who all won in the recent elections.

Of course, that is part of the game when you are in politics.
