City throws support for airsoft games

AIRSOFT enthusiasts in Cebu City now have something to celebrate in the coming days after the Cebu City Government will now support the sport that was once banned in the country.

This support was confirmed yesterday at the formal launching of the Assault at Gaisano Bowlingplex Parking Lot “Getting Hit Is Not An Option” airsoft tournament during the Sports Communicators Organization of the Philippines-Cebu Chapter forum yesterday at the Baseline Restaurant.

“We are 100 percent behind airsoft and in fact, we are offering the South Road Properties as a venue for airsoft competitions,” said Cebu City councilor Jakosalem, who is the chairman of the committee on sports.

“This is a real sport and it’s very demanding psychologically and physically on the part of the players,” added Jakosalem during the forum, which was also attended by PNP’s Firearms, Explosives, Security Agencies and Guards Supervisory Section (Fessags) Chief P/Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas.

Circular

Another good news for the lovers of the competition is PNP Circular No.8, which regulates the competition by imposing new rules and regulations.

Lawas said the circular took effect starting yesterday, after the gun ban was lifted the other day.

Under this order, the owners are required to register their airsoft weapons and gadgets with Fessags in order to be issued a license and avoid getting prosecuted by the law.

“The registration of airsoft weapons and gadgets, which is only P200 for a lifetime, can now begin after the gun ban was lifted the other day,” said Lawas.

Lawas also said those who will be caught with unlicensed airsoft weapons can be charged criminally and administratively.

Clubs

Lawas also said the enthusiasts can group themselves into a club, which then can apply to have their game site registered with the police.

“There will have to be an inspection by our personnel before we register your game site,” said Lawas.

Lawas is set to meet with the presidents of the different clubs to discuss the matter.

Meanwhile, the Elite Division of the “Getting Hit Is Not An Option” airsoft tournament, which will start at 8 a.m. tomorrow, has garnered a total of 13 squads.

These are: XTAT-One Airsoft Cebu, Assault and Tactics Operatives, Tactical Operations Elite Specialists, Team LTD, Airsoft Gamers Tactical Assault, Black Aces, Hammer Head, Crack Legion, Mandaue Airsoft Group, Diablo-Danao, PacMan, Deep Recon and Yaw Coy.

The Novice division, on the other hand, will be participated in by Crack legion-A and B, Cobra-Bogo, RAS, MAG, Cast, ATO, Hammerhead, Black Aces and LRC-AFP.

Four slots are reserved for teams who are interested to join the division, which will take place on June 23 and 24. (JSV)
