Thursday, June 21, 2007 Digital imaging firm uses new technology
CONSUMERS of printing devices are focused on technology innovation and price rather than the brand name, an official of a digital imaging solutions company said.
“Now, it’s not about who’s offering the product but who is offering the best technology,” said Epson Philippines Corp. (EPC) president Hideto Nakamura.
Nakamura said while color imaging companies offer “more or less” the same product line, it is in technological innovation “that sets Epson apart from its competitors.”
Jay Rañola, EPC product manager for consumer division, said for its new line of printers, Epson has adopted the Micro Piezo print head system, which allows accurate placement of ink, and the variable sized droplet technology (VSDT) that determines how large the inks are before printing.
No heat
Micro Piezo, which is designed and developed by EPC’s mother company Seiko Epson Corp., does not involve the use of heat that damages the printer unlike thermal technology, said Rañola.
He added the new Epson printers use the highest print resolutions in the market of up to 5760 dpi.
EPC introduced to Cebu its new Epson Stylus C90 single function printer (sfp) and Epson Stylus CX5500 multi-function printer (mfp), providing the cost conscious general home and small office-home users, small- to medium-scale businesses and advanced users a tool to ensure improved quality printouts at reasonable prices.
CX5500 features a one-touch copy that is capable of scanning, printing, and copying. It can also enlarge photos up to A4 sizes, among others.
Both printers are capable of printing 25 pages per minute (ppm) for black text and 13 ppm for colour printouts.
Less cost
To decrease the cost of printing, Epson uses INKdividual that allows users to only replace the color which has run out instead of changing the full set of inks at the same time, Rañola told a press conference during the product launching last Tuesday at the Krua Thai restaurant in Banilad Town Center.
Epson also uses its DURABrite Ultra ink guarantee print durability of up to 120 years on matte paper heavy weight.
Epson Stylus C90 and CX5500 are priced at P2,495 and P4,495 respectively.
Nakamura said EPC introduces at least two new product lines every year. Last September, the company rolled out Epson Stylus C59 and C79, both inkjet printers, and Epson Stylus CX2900, CX3900 and 5900, all multi-purpose machines.
EPC was established in the Philippines in 1198 and has over 120 companies worldwide. (MMM)
