Milo Best to hold Cebu leg in August; seeks to widen membership base

THE Milo Basketball Efficiency and Scientific Training (Best), the country’s premier and longest running developmental basketball clinic, have finalized the play date for the Cebu leg of the nationwide competition.

This was after the organizational meeting of all franchise holders last week at their main office in Manila.

The Milo Best has been in existence for the past 26 years, and the Cebu franchise of Boots and Mar Cabahug, has been operating for the last 18 years.

The tournament in both the Paserelle and Small Basketeers of the Philippines (SBP) is set to open on Aug. 11 at the Capitol Parish Gym with the organizational meeting of all teams involved set in early July.

Culmination

It has been a custom for Milo Best to hold a nationwide tournament that serves as its culminating event for its summer basketball clinic.

The teams that can join the tournament are only those that field in a certain number of players who have joined the clinic.

Members

Milo Best Cebu has regular member-schools taking part in the tournament and has already produced national champion in the University of San Carlos South Campus (USC SC).

However, last year, Milo Best feared losing one of its longest partners, USC, following a fiasco during the regionals involving a national officer of Milo Best. But when the dust settled, the alliance remains and USC will still be fielding teams from its South and North campuses.

Also competing are teams from Don Bosco College, Sacred Heart School Jesuits, University of Cebu, University of Southern Philippine Foundation and Cebu Institute of Technology.

This year, according to Boots, Milo Best is seeking to widen its membership and it plans to invite Springdale, Childhood Development Center of Cebu, Center for International Education and Royal Oaks. (MCB)
