Friday, June 22, 2007 The big switch By Anne O. Nimos
V1nc3 is what Cebu’s fashionable crowd has been seen in at parties around town; those full-length, printed, flowy numbers with sexy necklines and racy backsides that just ask to be stared at.
The label—started by one-time model agent, stylist and Sun.Star Cebu writer Vince Baguio—is a coveted fashion secret whispered among his friends. But good news travels fast, although Vince would agree bad news travels even faster. In that light, this one comes just in the nick of fashionably on time.
Live gets an exclusive on the rising fashion label’s auteur.
Live: When did the big switch to fashion designer come about?
I’ve always been in the sidelines of the fashion world here in Cebu. I handled models and I was also into styling for photo shoots, fashion pictorials, commercials, print ads and I styled a music video once. I decided to make some long dresses for my sisters, and a handful of girls started to order and, as they say, the rest is history.
Q: How recent is the venture?
This all started around middle of April this year and, thankfully, even if I don’t have a shop or boutique, I get a steady stream of clients who keep coming back for more.
Q: What is the line’s look?
I only do dresses (for now!) and they’re usually made of stretch fabric which can be anything from floral to polka dots or stripes. I combine different prints and I guess that’s what makes it so different. Some of my clothes are obviously resort, but I see some of the girls wear it to clubs or in bars. I also have a lot of mini dresses that are super short and sexy.
Q: What is Vinc3’s take on the fashionable Cebuana?
Since Cebu is in the tropics, Cebuana girls should always look their best under the sun. My clothes are perfect for our climate since they’re cool, and you can actually dress them up with the right accessories. And this will take you from day to night.
