TOP Rank’s Bob Arum confirmed yesterday that Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao is going to see action against Mexican slugger Humberto “La Zorrita” Soto in his next assignment.
Michael Marley reported in boxingconfidential.com that Bob Arum has confirmed the Pacquiao vs. Soto fight on Oct. 6 with Vancouver, Canada as the top choice venue.
“We will have an announcement on Manny next Monday or Tuesday,” Arum told boxingconfidental.com.
The announcement, however, will not be changed regardless of the situation that is currently boiling in the US.
Arum is referring to the mediation proceedings regarding the lawsuit being fought by Arum’s Top Rank and Oscar dela Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions.
“We are moving forward with Pacman’s next fight, regardless of anything that happens on the other situation,” Arum added.
Boxrec.com, a website that chronicles boxers’ previous and coming fights, has also already listed the Pacquiao vs. Soto fight at the GM Place in Vancouver, Canada. According to boxrec.com, Pacquiao will put his WBC international super featherweight belt at stake in this 12-round boxing spectacle.
Soto’s became a prospect following Bobby Pacquiao’s seventh round knockout defeat to the Mexican banger last June 9 at the Madison Square Garden of New York City.
Many suspected the younger Pacquiao was just fed to Soto to prop up the sentiment when Arum pits the 27-year-old fighter from Tijuana, Mexico against the 28-year old superstar from General Santos City.
Crowded
Aside from that, Soto is the only other fighter in the crowded 130-pound division who is under promotional contract with Top Rank.
The other marquee fighters like Mexican legends Marco Antonio Barrera, Juan Manuel Marquez and the undefeated Joan Guzman are either under GBP or co-promoted by GBP.
Pacquiao (44-3-2, 35KOs) will be defending his WBC international belt for the fifth time and Soto (42-5-2, 26KOs) will become the seventh Mexican boxer who is going to test the caliber of the PacMan. (RCM)
