8 teams to compete in adventure race

EIGHT teams put their adventure racing skills to test as they compete for top honors when the Cebu Mountaineering Alliance stages the Annual Adventure Race today in Dalaguete.

Team Cebu Road Runner Club, who last held a championship trophy in the Manunggal Adventure Race last March, hopes to extend their winning ways today.

The team is led by Mt. Kinabalu campaigner Merlita Arias. She’s joined by Jeffrey Anabong and Charles Berberio.

However, a last minute glitch could cause the team to be disqualified.

“My muscles are a bit sore from my training, but we are very much prepared physically for the race. But as of the moment we are still hoping that we could complete our equipment because we still lack harnesses,” she said.

Race organizer Ricky Sevilla had said that they implemented strict rules.

“On top of other reasons, these are for safety purposes. Also, there would be time penalty if they do not have complete equipment, and it will only affect the team,” Sevilla said.

Arias, who used to control the road races, shifted to mountain and adventure races to prepare herself for the next Mt. Kinabalu Skyrace in August.

On a warpath on the other hand, is SUE, composed of Francisco Nillas Jr. Walter Bandigan and Mary Rose Arman. The team is hoping to get back from a debacle in the Manunggal race, where, despite completing most of the control points, they were disqualified after failing to make it back to the base camp during the cut-off time.

The other teams include Teams Argao, Tropa Laagan, Opascor, Backpackers, Hanap and Tangkugo. (MCB)
