At least 12 barangay presidents assume higher office on June 30

THE Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) Provincial Federation lost 12 local presidents who were elected to higher government positions last May 14.

ABC Provincial Federation President Teresita Celis yesterday led the giving of recognition to the 12, alongside Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.

Also yesterday, Garcia administered the oath of office of councilors and vice mayors of Ronda, Consolacion, Tuburan and Pinamungajan, among others.

Of the 12 ABC presidents, one made it in the mayoral race of his town.

Constancio Suezo of Tuburan was elected mayor and will replace his wife, outgoing Tuburan Mayor Rosemarie Suezo.

What next?

Another ABC President, Necipuro Apura of Carcar, is now the town’s vice mayor and may well be its first city vice mayor if the plebiscite for Carcar’s conversion goes well this Sunday.

The rest of the outgoing ABC presidents honored yesterday were elected councilors.

They are Ramsi Sayson (Minglanilla), Elmer Lapitan (Naga), Nador Omale (Samboan), Bernabe Compra (Madridejos), Leo Villacruciz (Bogo) and Alejandro Cartagena (San Francisco, Camotes).

Others are Antonieto Pedericos (Pilar), Carmen Remedios Durano-Meca (Danao City), Basilio Mangubat (Consolacion) and Eduardo Cuizon (Lapu-Lapu City).

Garcia thanked the ABC presidents in helping her achieve her “unprecedented and historic” majority of almost half a million votes.

She assured she will continue to look after the needs of their constituents, and explained that what is going on between the Capitol and the Cebu City Goverment is not a word war as they are just protecting the interests of their respective people.

As governor, she said it is her obligation to recover the properties of the Capitol so the Province can earn from them.

Congressman-elect Pablo Garcia, who is running for House speaker, also asked the newly elected officials to pray for him.

“I need your prayers, mao ni akong hangyo kaninyo (this is my appeal to you),” said the former governor, adding, “But whatever happens, I will be there working and fighting for the interests of our beloved Cebu.” (JPM)
