The local poll office already received 230 ballot boxes, official ballots and plebiscite returns.
Paredes expects a high turnout of voters considering that the local government unit is “very active” in its campaign.
The Comelec has done its share by putting up streamers encouraging people to go out and vote.
The streamers are placed on strategic places like the plaza and the boundaries to the adjacent towns.
Also, she said Carcar is near the city so voters who are working in Cebu City can easily go home to vote. Carcar has 47,897 registered voters.
If the “yes” votes will prevail, Carcar will be the second city in Cebu’s first and the seventh component city under the Cebu Provincial Government.
The Carcar Municipal Government has allotted P3.675 million for the plebiscite.
The P2.7 million has been deposited with the Commission on Elections while the rest is for the honorarium of those who will serve in the plebiscite.
A plebiscite is considered the ratification of the law creating the City of Carcar. If the people will not agree, then the law will not take effect.
Last June 16, people in Bogo voted “yes” for its cityhood. It had a 60-percent turnout of voters, which Provincial Election Supervisor Lionel Marco Castillano said was high for a plebiscite. (MBG)
