Tuesday, July 03, 2007 Isle of Man shows force on Day One
THE Isle of Man softball team whipped up an instant impression with an opening-day victory at the Cebu Association of Batted Sports (Cabs)-Commissioner Rolly Diorico Men’s Softball Cup at the Basak National High School Grounds last Sunday.
The Isle of Man needed a wake-up call from Alintone Adolfo who struck a two-base run that propelled the team to a 9-3 win over Locan of Lapu-Lapu City.
However, powerhouse Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT) stole the thunder from the rookie squad and secured two wins to top the leaderboard in Senior’s A division.
SCSIT defeated the Pusok All-Stars 9-6 in its morning game and scored a 12-0 shutout over its archrival Aldritz Pau Liniment in the main game.
Down 0-2 in the first two innings, Alintone drove a high ball that allowed two runs from Jojo Rafanan and Louie Ramos.
With Adolfo earning his run, Emmy de la Cerna, Richard Burgos, Mark Bonjoc and Sunday Ladisla completed a six-run inning for a 6-2 lead.
Locan tried for a late comeback but they could only muster one run in the seventh inning as Isle of Man put a finishing touch on its final turn at bat with Allen Diniola, Carrywhite de la Cerna and Bonjoc completing the final score.
SCSIT, on the other hand, started strong against the Pusok All-Stars on the second inning with Serfico Tabares, Clark Del Mar, Ryan Igot and Genaro Macayan giving the powerhouse squad a 4-1 lead.
Jackson Genolaga had two runs and Abrine Pautan added one as SCIT erected a 7-3 lead at the end of the fourth round.
Against Aldritz Pau, SCSIT started with two runs courtesy by Macayan and Zaldy Bacarisas at the top of the first inning.(RCM)
