THE Sirlitz quintet will begin their title retention campaign tomorrow when the sixth edition of the Thirsty Hoop Jams Inter-Company basketball tournament opens at the Bright Academy Gym in Barangay Banilad this city.
The Lito Gillamac-owned Sirlitz squad will be facing the challenges to be put up by the 11 other participating teams in the tourney.
They are Veco, Alliance Software, Kia Cebu, Nature’s Spring, Touch Mobile (Globe), Touch Mobile (Abacar), Firefly, Cebuana Lhullier, PS Bank, Thirsty Juices and Shakes, and House of Hope.
The champion in the tournament will be receiving P5,000 cash plus a Pentium 4 computer, while the first runner-up will take home P3,000.
“Over the years since the Hoop Jams started, its primary goal is to help create an active and healthy working environment amongst co-workers as well as to help promote companies and their products through a competitive but friendly basketball league,” said event organizer Charlie Pages.
The tournament follows a single round-robin format in the elimination with the top four teams advancing into the crossover semifinals. The top two seeds will enjoy twice-to-beat advantages over the lower-ranked squads.
The winners will then clash for the championship in a best-of-three affair. (JSV/PR)
