Yapha was the district’s political leader in the last nine years but lost to Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia in the election for governor last May. His wife, former Provincial Board member Estrella Yapha, also lost to Garcia’s brother, now Rep. Pablo John Garcia.
“Before, I was thinking of my commitment (to the Yaphas). But now, what for?” Zambo told reporters.
Governor Garcia lost in Toledo City last May 14. Zambo campaigned for Yapha.
But last Friday, Zambo welcomed Garcia in Toledo City for the first meeting of the Regional Peace and Order Council for this term.
Politics aside
“I am only after the good of my city and its people. Let us set aside politics now,” said Zambo.
She added that she would now be frequently seen at the Capitol for meetings that Garcia will call for.
“I am willing to work with the governor and the new congressman Pablo John Garcia. I will give respect to the persons whom the people voted for,” she said.
“As a good leader, I will listen to the voice of my people. Ako pud tan-awn kung kinsa ang makahatag og development sa Toledo,” said Zambog.
First term
Garcia, for her part, said that even in her first term, she was already willing to help all localities.
She said she could be seen visiting even the new city of Bogo, hometown of the Martinez family, so she can deliver services there.
Garcia added that she is governor not just of those who voted for her, but of every Cebuano. (JPM)
