Play of light
By Ritchie Landis Doner Quijano

PERHAPS the impressionists had the most fun in using colors. They mostly did their work plein-aire or in the open outdoors.

They popularized on-the-spot painting.

Pictures from actual life as they studied the effects of light on objects and how light influences the mood of the environment.

Natural and available light became their tool. Light provides color and without it, there’s total darkness. The local impressionist painter Raul Agas feels the same way as his predecessors did.

Over the years, he’s consistently made an impressive body of works, all exemplary in quality. Surely he now feels at home in the style, and why not when it’s fun to make.

The most distinct character of an impressionist painting is in the way local scenery is depicted according to how an artist sees it. Impressionism is indeed a different way of seeing things. A significant collection of paintings by Agas is currently on display and available for sale at the Golden Cowrie Restaurant along Salinas Drive in Lahug.
