THE man who stabbed dead three persons and also wounded his own wife in Tabuelan town was captured in the neighboring village yesterday morning.
But Paquillo Tuling (not Taquillo as earlier reported), did not give up without a fight. He grabbed a policeman’s .45 pistol and he stabbed him in the stomach.
This prompted PO3 Wilson Abot to fire his Armalite rifle at Paquillo’s right ankle.
Paquillo was taken to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. He was scheduled for surgery as the bullet was embedded in his leg.
Paquillo stabbed his wife, Dina Banares Tuling, and sister-in-law Julieta Tuling last Thursday.
Canluhangon Barangay Captain Romualdo Montecalvo tried to ask him to surrender but Paquillo jumped at him from a rice field and attacked him.
Though wounded, Romualdo ran home but Paquillo chased him inside and stabbed him. He also stabbed Romualdo’s wife Armingola Balingcasag-Montecalvo in the back.
Residents had locked their doors, afraid he would turn his ire on them.
Julian Branzuela tried to throw a stone at Paquillo so he would stay away from the barangay captain but he ran as soon as Paquillo chased him.
Branzuela was spared.
The Montecalvo couple and Julieta died while Dina is at a hospital in a critical condition.
Abot told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday that SPO2 Rogelio Balingcasag and a barangay tanod had been waiting near an abandoned house in Sitio Anapog, Barangay Cantubaon. The old house reportedly belonged to Paquillo’s late father.
Paquillo reportedly crept up to them and then grabbed Balingcasag’s firearm.
Balingcasag, Armingola’s brother, then called his colleagues at the Tabuelan Police Station for help.
PO3 Abot said they searched the area where Balingcasag was attacked but failed to find him.
When they reached another abandoned house, the area appeared deserted.
However, Paquillo made the mistake of clearing his throat, prompting Abot to turn in the direction of the sound.
“Ginukuray napod mi. Nagligid-ligid gud siya kay bukid man ni (We chased him again. He kept falling because of the terrain),” Abot said.
They recovered the .45 pistol and placed him under arrest.
Abot, who talked to Paquillo, said the latter denied killing anyone. Later on, he said someone wanted to kill him.
Romualdo had already been planning to bring Paquillo to a hospital because the latter claimed he was not feeling well.
On the way, Paquillo then allegedly began to shake convulsively. He then ran to a house to drink water before running to Julieta’s house.
The next thing they knew, Julieta’s husband cried for help saying his wife had been stabbed.
Neighbors went out and tried to help Julieta into a multicab so she could be taken to a hospital.
Moments later, Paquillo’s wife Dina arrived, being carried by her children after she was also stabbed.
Abot said they were trying to keep Paquillo away from angry relatives, who might want to harm him.
He said they all helped the police in looking for him.
Abot said their investigators are planning to file multiple murder cases against him.
