Korean drowns in Mactan

A KOREAN national reportedly drowned while snorkeling in one of the beach resorts in Lapu-Lapu City yesterday.

Kim Seung Moon, 25, was among a dozen of Koreans who are taking up a one-week English course in a local language school in Cebu City.

Instead of enjoying an afternoon at the beach, Moon’s friends were surprised when a commotion broke out at the shore just a few minutes after Moon rushed to take a dip with his snorkeling gear.

PO3 William Homoc of the homicide section of the Lapu-Lapu City Police station said that the incident occurred at past 11 a.m. yesterday.

He said Moon was about 25 meters from the shore and was swimming on 2.5-meter deep waters when he drowned.

The other resort guests reportedly saw him asking for help.

Jet ski operators Ronaldo Daño and Ronald Igot and Moon’s close friend, Kang Min Soo, rushed to rescue him.

They tried to revive Moon before he was rushed to the Mactan Doctors’ Hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body was brought to the Cebu Rolling Hills Memorial Chapels for autopsy.

PO3 Homoc said the resort’s lifeguard on duty was reportedly out for lunch when the incident happened. (FQB of SuperBalita)
