Monday, July 16, 2007 Flores, Gabunada eye acute angles to win
JAME Boy Flores and John Rey Gabunada went through the proverbial eye of the needle when they pulled their separate thrilling win to secure a semifinal seat in the 2007 Sun.Star Superbalita 9-Ball Challenge held at the Gaisano Bowlingplex.
Flores defeated Jeffrey Cañete 6-5 while Gabunada also scored a 6-5 win over Mhar Sagarino to secure the seat to the SM City Cebu Trade Hall Grand Finals on July 27-29.
The high school cast is expected to be completed at press time with the leading candidates Gerwin Bathan and Gerald Pontanar leading the way on the second day.
Bathan had recently scored a 6-2 win over Mark Philip Rodriguez while Pontanar eliminated Marvard Alate by 6-4 racks.
All semifinalists from the respective division will converge to the Grand Finals where the much awaited Open Division will be played.
The Sun.Star Superbalita 9-Ball Challenge will be joined by billiard stars that includes Ronato Alcano, the champion of the 2004 edition and Dennis Orcollo who also won in the 2005 competition. (RCM)
