Isle of Man’s sacrifice pays off

THE Isle Of Man proved to be a force to reckon with as it pulled the rug under the powerhouse Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT) following its controversial 2-1 win in the 2007 Cebu Association of Batted Sports-organized Commissioner Rolly Diorico Softball Championship at the Basak National High School grounds yesterday.

Aldritz Pau De Arco, on the other hand, scored a tough win, beating Carcar Royale, 5-1, to join the winners’ column, while the Pusok All Stars Locan survived a scary exchange of errors to beat its rival squad from Lapu-Lapu City, 5-3.

In the Seniors B division, Angeric of Pakna-an in Mandaue outpowered the Basak Sluggers, 14-1, in a game cut short through the fourth inning because of the mercy rule, while the San Vicente Padres won by forfeiture over Pusok Team B.

In the main game, both teams fought to a scoreless draw until the SCSIT batters made scored a run at the bottom of the fifth courtesy of Serfico Tabares.

However, Isle Of Man was quick to even the game at 1-all with Sandy Ladisla reaching the home on Alintone Adolfo’s turn at the base.

Extra inning

The two teams did not score until the final inning, forcing an extra inning.

Ladisla, who started at the second base, was able to score as Kling Klang Diniola, Carrywhite de la Cerna and Adolfo sacrifices to allow their runner to complete the run home.

SCSIT’s Russel Cabrera, on the other hand, was not as lucky, even though he was able to reach the home, his run was nullified after the third base umpire ruled he made an early start, causing an uproar from the bench.

Sacrifice

Like Isle of Man, SCSIT also made two sacrifices just to allow Cabrera to make it home.

However, tournament director Dionisio Bacarisas ended uproar and reminded the SCSIT players to respect the judgement of the umpire.

Meanwhile, it took a homer from Samuel Bacaltos and a run from Doppy Cerna to break a scoreless three innings for Aldritz Pau De Arco. (RCM)
