Tuesday, July 17, 2007 3 self-confessed hired guns nabbed
THREE men, who confessed to being hired guns, were arrested after shooting their target in A. Abellana St. in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City last Sunday night.
Dandy L. Catamora, 26, Oliver C. Devilleres, 32, and Marlon Galinzoga, 40, all residents of A. Abellana St., were arrested in a joint follow-up operation conducted by the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau and the Homicide Section.
Catamora and Devilleres were identified by victim Mark T. Fernandez, 30, who hails from Zamboanga City but is temporarily residing in A. S. Fortuna St., Mandaue City, as the ones who shot and robbed him past 11 p.m.
Galinzoga, on the other hand, was arrested after Fernandez’s Nokia 1070 cellular phone, gold necklace and wallet containing P2,500 cash were recovered from his possession.
Waylaid
Fernandez was walking along the road when Catamora and Devilleres waylaid him.
Catamora held Fernandez at gunpoint.
Fernandez, however, tried to grab the gun but Catamora pulled the trigger hitting the victim in the left hand. Catamora snatched the cellular phone from Fernandez’s right hand.
Devilleres took Fernandez’s necklace and his wallet from his back pocket.
Catamora and Devilleres ran towards a nearby basketball court, while, Fernandez took a taxi to Velez General Hospital for treatment.
At 12:30 a.m. yesterday, Catamora, Devilleres and Galinzoga were arrested.
Picture
Interviewed by reporters yesterday, the three suspects claimed they were hired to kill Fernandez.
Devilleres said a friend he identified as Reylan Gabucan hired them for the job.
Devilleres said they did not know Fernandez but were only shown a picture of him.
According to the information relayed to them by Gabucan, a woman paid them to get Fernandez’s cellular phone first before they would kill him. They would be paid P10,000 once the crime is carried out.
Based on the agreement, Catamora would be the one to shoot Fernandez, Devilleres said.
However, they pitied Fernandez and decided to just rob him instead.
But Fernandez allegedly resisted prompting Catamora to shoot him. (JST)
