Cebuano junior netters choose exams over Milo event in Iligan city

A HUGE field of junior tennis players backed out of this weekend’s Milo Junior Tennis Tournament because of their exams.

“We made it clear that we are not joining because of the exams,” said Sally Siso, mother of the celebrated Siso siblings, after it was reported in another daily that they will be joining the event.

The tournament was originally scheduled earlier this month in Ozamis City. It was moved to another date still in Ozamis, before organizers rescheduled again for this weekend in Iligan.

“If it was conducted earlier, we could have joined it. We asked coach Jovy (Mamawal, Milo organizer) to move it but they can’t and it is the exam week and we can’t miss out on the exams,” Siso added.

Siso said that it will be hard for the kids to keep on training with the exams coming up.

Backing out of the tournament are the Sisos—Bernardine Niño and Sally Mae—and Kristel Mae Buenacosa, Cheska Tabotabo, Hanna, Jestoni Espinosa, University of the Visayas’ Cyril Camporedondo and Larry Antigua and Kim Uytico.

Sally however said they are preparing for a much bigger event, which is the Malaysian Tennis Circuit later this year.

Before that, they have to get past a series of qualifying tournaments starting off with the Milo Regional Final in September. (MCB)
