Friday, July 20, 2007 Gould holds clinic for kids; CebuFA promises support
A FILIPINO-British member of the national football team who traces his roots in the town of Boljoon, will be holding a free football clinic on July 28.
Chad Alesna Gould, whose mother Antoinette is from Boljoon, will be holding a football clinic for more than 100 football players in his mother’s hometown.
Invited to the clinic are the 60 6-12-year-old members of the Boljoon Football Club headed by Glenn Nierre and 16 other clubs.
The clinic is part of the daylong event which will conclude with a concert for a cause. The beneficiary will be the Cirilo Sestano Charity.
Gould, who was born in Cebu, took a break from his busy schedule as a recording artist to help his mother in this undertaking. When told of the project, Gould was more than willing to help out.
For the clinic, Gould said in yesterday’s press conference that he will be keeping it simple.
“Football is the world’s most popular sport. It is very enjoyable. If I could just show these kids the excitement that playing the sport brings, then I will have done my job,” said Gould, who incidentally, is a strong believer in grassroots development.
Gould, who is also an ambassador of Boljoon, is also seeking to get more people to visit Boljoon’s tourist sites. “I have discovered the great dive sites and other attractions in Boljoon and I will be inviting more people from London to come over,” Gould.
Meanwhile, to show support to Gould’s undertaking, Cebu Football Association’s Jonathan Maximo will be throwing in footballs to all schools that will take part in the clinic.
“I will be donating 10 balls for each Boljoon School who will join the event. I will try to get more, provided the schools will maintain a football team,” Maximo said in a text message. (MCB)
