Friday, July 20, 2007 Lim tells Amonsot: Make Bohol proud, be yourself
MAYOR Dan Neri Lim’s presence in Las Vegas gave Czar Amonsot added inspiration in his quest to wrest the WBO interim lightweight title from Michael Katsidis on July 21 (July 22 RP time) in Mandalay Bay Hotel and Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada in the US.
Lim’s fatherly advise and presence was more than enough to make the 21-year old ALA Boy grow hungrier to win the title.
“Make us proud. Treat this one as your last fight and be yourself. Show your own style and trust God above all,” Lim told Amonsot during his visit with the boxer.
Amonsot and his trainer Edito Villamor arrived in Las Vegas last Monday and had “maintenance training” while waiting for the official weigh in on Saturday.
Yesterday, Amonsot went for a 30-minute run before working out at the Las Vegas Boxing gym where he does light training composed of skipping ropes, shadow boxing and some weight training.
“I can say Amonsot is in the best shape of his career and I saw the fire in his eyes. He is determined to bring the title back home and he will go down trying,” said Lim in an interview with Sun.Star Cebu.
Lim also reminded Amonsot to stay focused all the time and never let his emotions go over his head.
Amonsot almost always ran out of focus when an opponent tries to rough him up as evident in his past two fights in Las Vegas back in 2006.
However, the Boholano boxing czar, who is ranked No. 7 by the World Boxing Organization, is expected to show a different attitude since Katsidis is a type of fighter that also goes down fighting.
The Katsidis-Amonsot fight is one the undercards of the Bernard Hopkins vs. Wingky Wright super middleweight fight on pay-per-view. (RCM)
