Thursday, July 26, 2007 CIS coach gets AFC C license
CEBU International School’s football coach Eleazar Toledo joined the elite circle of Cebuano coaches who have earned the license C certification from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
Toledo, who took up the course last summer, received the results only this week and found out that he is one of 10 who passed the licensure exam. A total of 22 coaches from the entire country took part in the licensing.
Apart from Toledo, the other coaches with the same license are Glen Ramos of University of Cebu and Mario Ceniza of Paref-Springdale. Cebu-based coaches Joshua Fegidero, who is currently with University of San Carlos and Dennis Peńalosa of Bright Academy, both from Negros Oriental FC also hold the same licenses.
Toledo underwent a two-week training at the Ultra by Philippine Football Federation instructor Marlon Maro, capped by the exams, which Toledo aced.
“The advantage of having this is you are recognized by the entire membership of the AFC,” Toledo said.
Aside from this, applying for jobs will become relatively easy because it gives one a level of competence higher compared to other coaches.
“It even opens an opportunity for us coaches to coach for a group or a school in another Asian country,” he said.
Toledo added that the biggest gain is in knowing the basic principles of training especially on the kids.
“We can explain it deeper to the kids, why we do certain drills and what results or impact it will have. It is no longer a ‘copy and paste’ training, where we just follow what has been taught to us or what we see in instructional videos,” Toledo added.
Toledo said he is encouraging coaches to do the same. “I call on the FAs to require the member coaches to get licenses,” said Toledo.
“A lot of FAs are already doing this. We can get ahead of the others. Soon, in line with its program, the PFF will require this from all the FAs. It has been their drive to let coaches take the licensing,” Toledo added.
Before taking the licensure exam, coaches need to join the basic coaching course and get the national coaches’ certification before the licensing. (MCB)
