Friday, July 27, 2007 CCPO needs witness to help in probe of rob suspect’s killing
THE Cebu City Police Office is having a hard time identifying the perpetrators in the killing of robbery suspect Brando Babao.
Acting Cebu City Police Office Director Patrocinio Comendador said they hope to find a witness who can help them in coming up with cartographic sketches of the perpetrators.
Comendador said Babao’s 65-year-old mother Elena and the 12-year-old ambulant vendor who witnessed the killing could not give descriptions of the faces of the perpetrators, especially the gunman.
The perpetrators, who were riding a black Enduro-type motorcycle, reportedly covered their faces with cloths at the time of the shooting.
Babao died of multiple gunshot wounds after he was shot while he was riding a taxi with his family. He was shot less than an hour after posting a P40,000 bail bond for the illegal possession of firearm case filed against him.
Elena and taxi driver Roel Siasar were taken to hospitals for gunshot wounds in their legs.
Motive
Comendador said the strongest motive they are pursuing is that Babao was liquidated by his fellow robbery group members.
Babao, who was arrested by operatives of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Station for possession of unlicensed Magnum .357 revolver, reportedly provided the police information about the robbery group where he was a member and its target establishments in the downtown Cebu City area. (JST)
