Cops identify ‘masterminds’

TWO Koreans were tagged as the masterminds in the shooting of a fellow Korean and his Filipina friend last June 25 in Cebu City.

The Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) filed a complaint of frustrated murder against Won Hyun Woo and Park Jin Hyuk before the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office yesterday.

With the filing of the complaint, acting CCPO Director Patrocinio Comen-dador and Homicide Section Chief Mario Monilar considered the case solved at the police level.

Complaint

Also named in the complaint was Roberto Delgado, alias “Bobit” who was identified as the gunman in the shooting of Taecheol Park, 41, of Busan, Republic of Korea and Bona Benitez, 24, of Talisay City, at 9 p.m., at the corner of F. Cabahug and Tres Borces Sts. in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City.

Park and Benitez had identified Delgado because the latter did not cover his face when he carried out the crime.

The killing has been traced to a business partnership on treasure hunting that gone sour between Park and the two Koreans is blamed for the attack.

The attack occurred shortly after the victims and their three other companions disembarked from a taxicab. Woo was one of Park’s companions during the incident.

Park, in his sworn statement, said he noted the “unusual behavior” of Woo at the hospital.

The following day, Woo left the hospital and never came back.

Several calls were also made by Park to Woo but were all unanswered.

“It was so clear that it was due to our gold mine/treasure hunting activities with Won Hyun Woo, with English name James, and Park Jin Hyuk, with English name Peter, because I invested a big amount on such kind of business ...,” Park said in the affidavit.

Prior to the incident, Park also recalled seeing Woo busy talking to someone else through his cellular phone.

Park said the last communication he had with Woo was last June 27. Woo allegedly told Park that he was in their house in Xavier Estate in Cagayan de Oro City with Hyuk.

Park said there were instances when he saw Won Hun Woo and Park Jin Hyuk talking to a person who looked like Roberto Delgado in Cagayan de Oro City a few days before he came to Cebu City. (JST)
