Monday, July 30, 2007 MyJoy: Smiling through it all
A FEW months ago, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of a multinational fastfood chain and ordered the restaurant formerly known as Macjoy to officially change its name.
In typical Cebuano spirit, MyJoy, as the restaurant is now called, is smiling through it all.
“We were apprehensive, obviously, because people might react negatively if we did something as radical as changing the name,” shares Ingrid Espina, marketing manager. “But we are very hopeful with this new name. It sounds more warm and personal. It’s not that far from the original, and sums up everything that people experience the moment they enter our doors.”
Giving loyal patrons a chance to feel at home, MyJoy promises to maintain the cheerful atmosphere of its branches and the upbeat attitude of the people behind it.
The bright colors, the wonderful artwork, the smiling staff, and of course, the good food–all the elements that made this restaurant a Cebuano favorite for 20 years now will still be there.
And taking a cue from their name change, both MyJoy branches at Osmeña Blvd. and at the 3rd level of Ayala Center Cebu are currently undergoing changes as well.
The unveiling, which will happen on Aug.1 will be a well-deserved event for the restaurant’s loyal customers, and for new ones as well.
“They (the court) told us to change (our name), so we did, and even went beyond what they told us to do!,” said Espina. “I guess it’s a very Cebuano thing: we always put a positive spin on the things that happen to us, and everything turns out for the better.”
Things are looking up for the restaurant, Espina revealed that they are expanding their menu to include new additions to the coolers line, and boneless grilled chicken, among others.
And Cebuanos can be sure that when it reopens its doors, MyJoy is going to live up to its new name, becoming a source of cheer and mirth for old and new customers alike.
