After two negatives, CV police hopes for approval

THOUGH they still got a negative approval rating from Cebu’s business sector, Central Visayas’ top police general is happy to see an improvement in the PNP’s image.

Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Silverio Alarcio Jr. said he was elated that the business sector has a better outlook on the organization than before.

The 2007 Social Weather Station’s Business Survey on Corruption showed that in Cebu and the rest of the country, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) approval rating in terms of sincerity in fighting corruption has “improved much.”

Last year, Cebu’s business sector gave a rating of -36 on the PNP’s sincerity in stamping out corruption, an improvement from the PNP’s 2005 rating of -54.

This year, the PNP’s rating is just -11.

“That is still a big margin. Sa sunod na survey, magiging positive na ‘yan (In the next survey, we will hopefully get a positive rating),” Alarcio said.

He assured that they will continue their “transformation efforts” in being sincere on the job and in eradicating corrupt activities within the organization.

The SWS did the survey from March 4 to May 11 this year among managers of 705 Filipino companies, mostly small or medium enterprises. One-third of the respondents, though, were from large companies. (MEA)
