Insecticide spraying ends in man’s electrocution

A MAN tasked to spray insecticides at a mango plantation was electrocuted by a live wire installed around the perimeter by the caretaker to keep thieves off.

Bernie Algabre del Rosario, 28, was checking the mangoes in Sitio Baud, Barangay Magdugo, Toledo City when he touched a galvanized iron (GI) wire at 2 p.m. Saturday.

He was with his wife Justine when he touched the GI wire that was connected to the electrical wire of the caretaker’s house within the premises.

Senior Insp. Eliakim Awit of the Toledo City Police Station and Engr. Eugene Daclan of the Cebu Electric Cooperative went to the area to investigate.

Bienvenido Verano Lenihan, 62, admitted he had the GI wire installed and connected to the electrical wire of a perimeter lamppost two weeks ago.

Police disconnected the wires and brought these to the police station over the weekend as evidence.

Lenihan was arrested and is now detained at the police station jail while del Rosario’s body was booked for autopsy.

Police are waiting for del Rosario’s family to file a complaint against Lenihan. (MEA)
