THE Southwestern University (SWU) stole the thunder in the 1st Grandmaster Nick Elizar Arnis Tournament as it ran away with the overall title last Saturday at the Elizabeth Mall activity center.

Perez dominated the non-traditional single stick forms event, defeating Dumanjug’s Emil Jan Elorde and Mandaue Comprehensive National High School’s Ariel Caparoso, who settled for second and third places, respectively.
In the sparring competition, Perez once more lifted SWU’s banner when he won over Romnick Carbelida of Dumaguete Arnis Team. Jomar Opigal of KSDB finished with a bronze medal.
Tano, on the other hand, won the forms competition in the distaff side and dominated the sparring competition of the middle weight class. She won over Liza Castañares of KSDB. Edelin Marie Villarta of Inayawan finished third.
Adding golds to SWU’s haul were Dan Ritchell Guba and Edgardo Bontuyan, who had one gold medal each.
