Wednesday, August 01, 2007 Cebu Zonta Club marks 25th year
THE Zonta Club of Cebu II will celebrate its silver founding anniversary tomorrow.
For 25 years, the club has devoted its effort to help uplift the lives of women and children in the community.
Among its projects are the Women and Children Friendly Center (WCFC), which is the pink building that serves as a shelter for victims of domestic violence for five years now.
Zonta Club of Cebu I and II merged into a Foundation of Zonta Club of Cebu Inc. in partnership with Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
The club also has two day care centers in Barangays Tipolo and Casuntingan, Mandaue City.
Toddlers are given free services and assistance, like books, toys and school supplies
The club also has Reading Corner of Zonta for Children at Rizal Library and Museum. This is aimed to help children stay away from trouble, drugs and vices and to encourage them to read books.
They also have a Migi’s Corner at WCFC. Migi’s Corner was donated by Cathy B. Guballa and was put up in memory of her son, Migi, who passed away at an early age. The room is a place where children can play and read while waiting for their mothers.
Support services
The club also offers support services to government agencies in times of calamities, such as fire, flood and typhoons. The passion of Zontians is to be visible in times of disasters.
“Reaching Out From Within Thru Services” is the theme of Zonta Club of Cebu II as it celebrates its 25 years of community service.
A thanksgiving gathering will be held tomorrow at City Sports Club Cebu at 6 p.m.
