Pacquiao leaves for US; files P30M suit vs. reporter

MANNY Pacquiao will finally leave for the US to start his training regimen for the Oct. 6 rematch with Marco Antonio Barrera at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Resort Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

After finishing up all his business engagements in the country, including the filming of a new movie, making some endorsements and a last minute libel suit against sportswriter, Pacquiao will finally report to the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.

From the time he will start his training, celebrated trainer Freddie Roach will now be in charge of all his daily activities.

Tour

However, aside from training, Pacquiao is also bound to join the promotional tour with his rival Barrera together with the promoters Top Rank Inc. and Golden Boy Promotions in many cities.

The tour is expected to drum up their already much-awaited sequel of the first fight that happened in Nov. 15, 2003 in San Antonio, Texas.

Pacquiao was supposed to leave for the US last July 4, but that flight didn’t push through.

Meanwhile, Pacquiao has filed a P30 million suit against a Manila-based reporter according to Philboxing.com.

According to Philboxing, Pacquiao’s lawyer, Franklin Gacal, filed the suit in General Santos. Pacquiao was apparently offended when reporter wrote that Pacquiao “is reported to be a compulsive gambler and is known to bet hundreds of thousands in casinos, cockfighting and billiards.”

Meanwhile, the promoters are now announcing that tickets for the much-awaited super featherweight 12-rounds fight is now on
sale.

Ticket prizes range from $100 to $600 while the fight is going to be shown live on HBO Pay-per-view with retail buys set at $49.50.

Aside from the prestige, the winner of this contest is expected to leave the ring as the No.1 pound-for-pound fighter. (RCM)
