Plexibond seals victory

LEXIBOND gained its share of the early leadership following its 64-52 drubbing the embattled and winless Decore without a win in the 1st United Architects Basketball Club tournament held at the City Sports Club Cebu gym.

Criz Matunog, Emmanuel Baguio and Elmo Ubanan gave too much problem for Decore which seemed lost early in the game.

Matunog played an all-around game as he drilled 20 points, on top of eight rebounds, five assists and four steals while Baguio contributed 17 points, two rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Ubanan punished Decore’s offense by swatting away six attempts to go with nine boards, 10 points and a steal.

Plexibond started the game hot with an early lead at 16-11 at the end of the first quarter, and kept its game to a higher note in the second by putting premium on its defense by holding Decore to only six points to lead 28-17 at the bend.

Elmer Laguna tried to take Decore within striking distance as he delivered the crucial shots to outscore the red hot Plexibond and cut down the lead, 34-42, into the third period.

However, it was not enough to give life to Decore as Plexibond went for the kill, outscoring and rendering its opponents helpless in the final period for its second win in as many games.

Laguna had a monster game for Decore, scoring a game-high 23 points on top of 10 rebounds, an assist and a steal.

Aside from scoring, Plexibond out-dueled Decore in assists department 18-12, steals 9-5, and shotblock 7-1.

Plexibond joined Acrytex at the top of the team standings with 2-0 cards, Permacote and RoofGard are tied at second with 1-1 slate, while Decore was joined by Skimkote at the bottom with a 0-2 record. (RCM)
