Friday, August 03, 2007 Burglar steals P4M worth of cellphones
A BURGLAR took some P4 million worth of high-end cellular phones from a shop on Leon Kilat St., Barangay Pahina Central in Cebu City.
Employees of Well Gadget Cellphone discovered the incident in the morning of July 31 when they were about to open for business.
Taken from the cellular phone shop were 773 pieces of assorted Nokia units, 258 units of Sony Ericsson, 71 Motorola units, 39 pieces of assorted Samsung units and two pieces of China model cellular phones.
Senior Insp. Michael Bastes, investigation section chief of the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau, who went with the Theft and Robbery Section investigators in responding to the incident, described the perpetrator to be “seasoned” in his craft.
The perpetrator, who was caught in the security camera of the shop, was slim and wearing a pair of denim pants. He did not have any shirt on and was sporting a barber cut.
Based on the time recorded in the security camera, the perpetrator managed to gain entry in the shop past 11 p.m. of July 30.
He scaled the roof of the shop, detached one ply of the galvanized iron and went inside by passing through the ceiling.
The video footage, which was shown to reporters yesterday, showed the perpetrator carefully choosing high end cellular phones from one display case to another.
He also managed to get access to the vault where more cellular phones were kept. He placed all the stolen units in two bags.
Before the perpetrator left the shop, he scoured the place and found the security camera, which he turned off by disconnecting the wirings.
Bastes said they would need the help of an expert in enhancing the video footage to get a clearer view and identify the robber. (JST )
