PRESIDENT Arroyo will be in Cebu today for an hour to attend the opening of the Cebu facility of Accenture, a global management consulting, technology services, and outsour-cing company.
The President, according to the Philippine Information Agen-cy (PIA) 7, will be arriving at Accenture’s Cebu facility at 2 p.m. from Capiz. She will be accompanied by Tourism Secretary Ace Durano, Trade and Industry Secretary Peter Favila and Presidential Management Staff Director General Cerge Remonde.
Arroyo will be welcomed by Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmena, Accenture country managing director Beth Lui and managing director Keith Haviland, Reps. Raul del Mar (Cebu City, north) and Antonio Cuenco (Cebu City, south) and Pioneer Insurance and Surety Corp. president and chief executive officer David Coyukiat.
Arroyo will cut the ribbon during the opening, tour the facilities, and interact with newly-hired workers at the company’s training room.
Fayette Riñen of PIA 7 said that because of the tight schedule, the welcome remarks of Lui and the overview on Accenture Cebu by Haviland will only be ten minutes.
Accenture’s Cebu facility is located in the Pioneer House building at the Cebu Business Park. It is the company’s first branch outside Metro Manila.
The company is a pioneer in the Philippines’ outsourcing sector. It said in a statement that it is expanding its technology capabilities in Cebu to show the company’s commitment to further the growth of the information and communication technology (ICT) industry.
PIA 7 said Accenture is one of the largest IT companies in the Philippines and the biggest third-party non-voice business process outsourcing (BPO) provider nationwide.
The US-based firm’s total workforce in the Philippines now stands at over 12,000, making its operations here one of the largest nodes in the Accenture global network.
About 500 to 700 job opportunities will be generated from Accenture’s Cebu branch operations, PIA 7 said.
After the formal opening of the company’s facility, Arroyo will witness the turn-over of a certificate of donation of 50 computers to Don Vicente Rama Memorial High School, Riñen said.
Riñen said some students of the school will perform a two-minute Sinulog presentation upon Arroyo’s arrival at the main street leading to the building.
She said among those who will be attending today’s activity are 150 guests invited by Accenture. (EOB)
