Friday, August 03, 2007 Motorbike riding gunmen shoot ‘robber’ in Inayawan
A SUSPECTED robber, who is facing a robbery with homicide case, suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the face and body in a shootout last Wednesday afternoon in Sitio San Antonio de Padua in Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City.
Daive V. Gabaca, 23, was taken to Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) for treatment of wounds in the right ear, right face, right wrist, left neck and left shoulder.
Gabaca has been tagged in the shooting to death of Junn Elmer Satira, 33, an architect, last June 15 at the corner of F. Jaca St. and the road leading to Greenfield Village in Barangay Inayawan. Satira was trying to stop motorcycle-riding robbers, later identified as Gabaca and one Junjun Badayos, from taking his girlfriend’s bag when he was shot.
The Homicide Section had filed charges of robbery with homicide against Gabaca and Badayos for the incident.
In last Wednesday’s incident, three motorcycle-riding assailants, one of them armed with a handgun, were described to have carried out the crime.
Cousins
Gabaca together with his two cousins were reportedly sitting on the gutter along the roadside when two men passed them by. Moments later, the two men came back and one of them shot Gabaca thrice.
Gabaca and his cousins scampered for safety. The slugs, however, hit Gabaca’s body and face.
The two men, on the other hand, ran towards a parked motorcycle driven by another man who waited for them, and fled.
Jacket
In a separate incident, an alleged motorcycle thief was gunned down by two men inside a kitchenette of Fr. Jose Bosch near the corner of F. Llamas St. Barangay Punta Princesa at dawn yesterday.
One of the assailants was described to be wearing a camouflage jacket while the other one had a blue jacket.
Policemen from the Punta Princesa Police Station and investigators from the Homicide Section found the body of Sherwin dela Cerna, alias Hiyong, 31, of Guadalupe Village, Punta Princesa at the stockroom of Aljone Kitchenette with multiple gunshot wounds in the face and body.
Witnesses told the investigators that dela Cerna was drinking beer and enjoying videoke songs when the gunmen arrived. One was armed with an improvised shotgun locally known as pugakhang while the other was armed with an undetermined firearm.
The perpetrators shot dela Cerna.
Dela Cerna ran to the warehouse passing through the kitchen.
The assailants, however, caught up with him.
Several bursts of gunfire rang out. Moments later, witnesses found dela Cerna’s body slumped on the floor.
Investigators recovered one empty shell of a shotgun, one slug of unknown caliber and a syringe near the left foot of the victim.
Police are looking into retaliation as the possible motive in the attack. (JST)
