Friday, August 03, 2007 Prosecutors to inhibit from Tolentino case
THE Office of the Cebu City Prosecutor is willing to inhibit from the preliminary investigation of the complaint filed by a policewoman against the former president of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP).
Cebu City Prosecutor Nicolas Sellon said that they would gladly inhibit from the complaint, but only if lawyer Alex Tolentino will ask them to.
Tolentino is charged with obstruction of justice, grave oral defamation and light threats.
Evidence
The complaint stemmed from the accusation that he stole documents needed in the filing of the case against his clients.
He is also accused of berating PO2 Jerybel Lerio and accusing the policewoman from the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau of planting evidence.
“For delicadeza sake, I will not hesitate to accommodate his request for inhibition,” said Sellon.
For Sellon, Tolentino has every reason to feel uncomfortable because some employees in their office executed affidavits against Tolentino.
Employees
“Naay basehan si Alex(Alex has a basis) to feel uncomfortable kay diri man sa maong opisina nahitabo ang insidente, unya naa pa gyuy mga empleyado nga ni-execute (because the incident happened here in the office and there are employees who executed) ug affidavit pabor sa (in favor of the) complainant,” he added.
Sellon explained that if Tolentino’s motion for inhibition will be filed, he would forward the request to the Office of the Regional State Prosecutor (RSP).
The RSP will be the one to decide who will handle the investigation of the complaint. (KNT)
